Scientists Discover Origin of HIV transmission

By using a kind of genetic analysis, several U.S. scientists have discovered how HIV spread among men, according to a new study.

The findings could lead to new treatments and vaccinations, according to a study by researchers at the University of California at San Diego.

The study involves a number of people who did not mention who had sexually transmit HIV to other men they were, the researchers said.

"By knowing the origin of the transmitted virus, scientists may be able to develop new vaccines," microbicides "vagina and drugs to prevent the spread of HIV, is transmitted through sexual intercourse," said lead study author Dr. Davey Smith, assistant professor of medicine at the University of California San Diego, in a university press release published by HealthDay News, Wednesday.

The discussion is HIV in sperm, which consists of sperm cells and fluid called plasma sperm. HIV particles containing RNA in these fluids, while storing the DNA of sperm cells with HIV, explained the study's authors.

"This Setakat, not yet determined whether the HIV RNA or DNA is transmitted during sexual intercourse," said Smith. "By analyzing the genetic differences between these two forms and is finally transmitted the virus to newly infected people, we found that the shape of HIV RNA contained in the sperm plasma was transmitted."

As for the transmission of HIV to women, Smith said, "Because most women infected with HIV through exposure to the virus in semen, HIV RNA in the sperm plasma seems to be a culprit but it needs to be confirmed."
